About the Rangitoto Island ferry
Want the lay of the land before you go? See our local guide to Rangitoto Island for tracks, lava caves and the summit climb.
The Rangitoto Island ferry takes you to Auckland's youngest and most iconic volcano. The 25-minute crossing is operated by Fullers360 with limited daily sailings. Rangitoto is a Department of Conservation reserve. Bring water, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes for the summit walk.
Terminals: Rangitoto Wharf ↔ Downtown Ferry Terminal
Operator: Fullers360
Tips for this route
- Book ahead during summer (Dec–Feb) as sailings regularly sell out.
- The summit walk takes about 1 hour each way. Allow at least 3 hours on the island.
- No shops, water, or toilets beyond the wharf. Bring everything you need.
- The Volcanic Explorer guided tour includes a road train to the summit if you don't want to walk.
